Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter
Environmental noise level measurement made easy
The top-of-the-range Optimus+ Environmental has been specifically designed as an environmental noise meter and is perfect for measuring and monitoring exposure to noise pollution and environmental noise sources, including construction sites, windfarms and industrial operations.
Available as either a Class 2 or Class 1 sound level meter, built to IEC 61672, the Optimus+ Environmental noise meter provides everything you need to measure both occupational and environmental noise, to the fullest extent. Capturing the full range of sound parameters simultaneously, there’s no other noise measuring instrument you need to measure and monitor exposure to environmental noise.
All Optimus+ Environmental noise meters are integrating data logging instruments, providing noise data such as sound pressure level (SPL), Leq and Peak and TWA/Dose. Optional measurement parameters include 1:1 and/or 1:3 octave band filters, tonal noise detection, Ln values, and on-screen NR/NC curves.
Need to measure noise outside?
Built to UK, EU, and international standards, the Optimus+ Environmental Noise Meter can be used anywhere in the world and is compatible with our range of weatherproof outdoor measuring kits, making it the comprehensive solution to your environmental noise monitoring needs whatever conditions you need to measure noise in. You can choose an outdoor kit with or without a modem for unattended measurements.
VoiceTag | Audio Note Recording
Each of our data logging Optimus+ Sound Level Meters feature VoiceTag audio note recording, increasing the ease with which your NoiseTools database can be organised. Before each measurement, simply speak into the microphone to provide additional information such as the location of your reading. Once your measurement data is downloaded to NoiseTools, these audio notes are automatically converted into text.
Acoustic Fingerprint | Audio triggering, recording & alerts
Each of our Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meters feature Acoustic Fingerprint technology, allowing you to automatically record and store audio by configuring a set of detection templates and rules. You can store audio recordings as either 96kHz/32bit quality, 48kHz/24bit quality, or as standard 16kHz/16bit bit quality which can be used for replay and source identification.
When used with the Outdoor Environmental Noise Kit with Remote Access, the Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter can communicate remotely and provide both data download and live noise information to NoiseTools. GPS location data is also provided allowing noise measurements to be stamped with the location, date and time.
Pattern Approval
The Class 1 variant of this meter has PTB Pattern Approval, and LNE Pattern Approval. See the Downloads tab for our certificate. Pattern Approval is a method where a test laboratory such as the PTB tests an instrument against a set of standard tests to ensure that it meets the performance claims of the manufacturer. Find out more here.
The Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter Range
Capturing the full range of sound parameters simultaneously, there’s no other noise measuring instrument you need to measure and monitor exposure to occupational or environmental noise.
This meter includes real-time 1:1 octave band filters that measure in all frequency bands at the same time; making it ideal for Noise Rating and Noise Criterion calculation.
This meter includes real-time 1:1 and 1:3 octave band filters that measure in all frequency bands at the same time as well tonal noise detection for when a detailed analysis of tonal environmental noise is required.

Comprehensive measurement capability
The overall Leq, Lmax and statistical Ln% values are measured along with a range of sound profiles providing a complete picture of the environmental noise under octave bands
The Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter with Tonal Noise Detection provide real time 1:3 octave band filters from 6.3Hz to 20kHz with the overall data stored alongside the time history or noise profile for each band.
Acoustic Fingerprint™ triggers and audio recording
As well as the VoiceTag™ recording, Optimus+ Environmental noise meters provide audio recording during measurements using the Acoustic Fingerprint™ technology.
Recordings can be started either manually or automatically when user-defined triggers are activated.
Audio recordings can be stored either as Studio (96kHz/32bit) quality which can be used for later analysis, or as Standard (16khz/16bit) quality which can be used for replay and source identification.
Tonal noise detection
The Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter with Tonal Noise Detection uses either the ISO1996-2: 2007 Simplified Method or the Cirrus Improved Method to highlight tonal noise in 1:3 octave bands.
Repeating measurements
Measurements can be either started manually or automatically by the measurement control functions.
This allows the instruments to make repeated measurements over long periods of time, ideal when the instrument is used with an outdoor noise measurement kit.
Outdoor Measurement Kits
Where there is a need to measure noise levels outdoor or over long periods, the Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meters can be used with the Outdoor Environmental Noise Kits.
These kits comprise a weatherproof case which contains the instrument and battery pack(s) along with an interface to external power and USB.
The kits also include the MK:170 outdoor microphone which provides weather protection for the microphone capsule and connects via a 10m cable to the main enclosure.
The CK:685 also contains a 3G/GPRS modem and GPS location receiver which allows the noise measurement data to be downloaded remotely to the NoiseTools software via the MyCirrus cloud system.
UK & EU Noise at Work Regulations
If you are working to the UK Control of Noise at Work Regulations or the EU Physical Agents (Noise) Directive, the Leq View gives you the information that you need.
The LAeq and LCPeak values are measured at the same time which allow the LEP,d (LEX,8h) and the Peak Action Levels to be determined.
The LCeq-LAeq (C-A) value is also measured which can be used to select PPE using the HML method. LAE is also measured along with LZPeak for regulations that use this rather than LCPeak.
OSHA, MSHA and other regulations
If you need to meet regulations such as OSHA HC & NC, MSHA HC or ACGIH, the two “virtual” noise meters in the Dose View can be quickly configured to provide you with this information.
The Quick Setup gives access to a number of preset functions including OSHA HC & NC, OSHA HC & ACGIH and MSHA HC & EC.
The custom settings can be used to choose any other setup or configuration that you may need. Once you’ve chosen the setup needed it will be stored so each time you use the meter you will have the information you need.
For the two “virtual” noise meters, the LAVG, TWA, % Dose and Estimated % Dose are displayed.
Octave Band Filters for Noise Control & Selecting Hearing Protection
The Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter with Octave Bands and with Tonal Noise Detection feature real-time octave band filters which will measure the noise in 10 different frequency bands.
The octave band measurement is made at the same time as the other measurements and includes the overall level in each band along with a time history of the bands across the measurement period.
These models also feature NR & NC values and curves to the 1:1 octave band measurements. This information can be useful in checking the performance of HVAC systems and noise levels in rooms.
All variants of the Optimus+ Environmental Sound Level Meter are integrating data logging instruments. As such, you’ll automatically get access to our licence-free software, NoiseTools. You’ll be able to keep a record of your measurements, analyse your data in detail, and create comprehensive reports to help you make better decisions. If you choose the Optimus+ Environmental with 1:1 octave bands, NoiseTools can also recommend the most appropriate form of hearing protection for your team, based on your data.
You can upgrade this instrument to a more advanced version of the Optimus+ Environmental at any time, future-proofing your investment.
