Description

The Intrinsically Safe doseBadge Noise Dosimeter

The Intrinsically Safe doseBadge Noise Dosimeter is a wireless personal noise dosimeter with added intrinsically safe Certification that will measure, store, and calculate personal noise exposure for your workers.

This instrument can be used in hazardous zones, for example underground mines, petrochemical plants and other areas that require safe measurement equipment.

With all the features and benefits of the Original doseBadge Noise Dosimeter, such as no cables, control or displays, and the added intrinsically safe Certification, the dosebadge noise dosimeter is perfect for a number of different applications.

What is Intrinsic Safety?

Intrinsically Safe equipment has energy levels so low that they cannot cause an explosion. Hazardous areas are those with combustible materials such as gases, dusts, or fibres that might produce an ignitable mixture.

What is ATEX and EEx?

The ATEX Directive, (ATmosphere EXplosible), is an EU Directive that provides the technical requirements for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive and hazardous atmospheres.

The ATEX Directive became a mandatory requirement for all hazardous area equipment sold in the European Union from 2003. In addition to the technical requirements demanded by the appropriate standards for each type of produce, the Atex Directive imposes additional requirements on the certificate holder in terms of quality systems and product documentation.

Intrinsic Safety Limitations

The doseBadge noise dosimeter, mounting kit and wind shield are approved for hazardous and explosive environments. None of the other items (Reader, Charger, etc.) have I.S. approval as the doseBadge charging, calibration and start-up is carried out outside the hazardous area.

Using the Intrinsically Safe doseBadge

Each Complete Kit is supplied with a Reader unit. One Reader can be used to control as many doseBadges as you need.

The Reader is used to carry out the following functions:

Reset and Calibrate the doseBadge
Start the doseBadge running (after fitting it to the worker's shoulder)
Stop the doseBadge at the end of the day
Read and Display the noise measurement results
Download to computer

The Reader has a built in Calibrator, operating at 1 kHz, 114 dB.

To calibrate the dosimeter, simply push it into the calibration cavity and press the Cal button on the Reader. The calibration process is automatic and the results are recorded, along with any automatic adjustments that are made.

The Reader unit can also be used to configure the doseBadge settings. The doseBadge can be configured to meet the ISO Q=3 (for European regulations) and OSHA Q=5 (for the American standards).

The Exchange Rate, Criterion Level, Criterion Time, Threshold and Slow Time Weighting can be set individually in order to meet other standards such as those published by MSHA, AICHE and ACGIH. See the Noise Regulations page for more information.

As the doseBadge has Dual Channels, it can have Channel 1 set to OSHA, MSHA, AICHE, ACGIH or similar, with Channel 2 fixed to measure with the common ISO 3dB settings.
