Introducing our simplified range of Sound Level Meters

The Optimus range of Sound Level Meters was first launched in 2009 and became synonymous with easy and accessible noise monitoring. In 2018, we introduced the Optimus+, which added new features to the already-impressive arsenal of functionality held by its predecessor.

Now, in 2024, we’ve simplified our offering to ensure that you’re getting the best meter for your needs.

The newest range of Optimus+ Sound Level Meters introduces a revised range of categories; Industrial and Environmental, making it easier for you to identify the right solution for you. Other updates include increased memory size, which has expanded the core memory from 4GB to 8GB across the range, and data logging as standard with all Industrial and Environmental units.

The updated Optimus+ range includes:

Optimus+ Industrial

  • CR151B & CR:152B
  • CR:161B & CR:162B
  • CR:161C & CR:162C

Optimus+ Environmental

  • CR:1710 & CR:1720
  • CR:171A & CR:172A
  • CR:171C & CR:172C

The latest evolution of Optimus, which adds to the already extensive range of functions, including VoiceTag, audio recording, Bluetooth connectivity and the free supporting analysis and reporting software, NoiseTools, is a result of feedback collated through the organisation’s internal customer support team, the calendar of industry events Cirrus attends worldwide and its long-standing client relationships.

CEO of Cirrus Research plc, Daren Wallis, said of the changes:

“The reliability and precision of the Optimus is one of the things Cirrus Research is best known for and we have been consistently adapting and evolving the range for over 15 years. Because all aspects of the production process are carried out here – from development and manufacture to after-sales support and calibration – effective updates to the services and products we provide can be quick and responsive.”

Daren explains: “We take our customer’s success very seriously, so our technology is consistently being tested and developed. Since it was first launched, we’ve added to the Optimus series as required, but recently feedback has suggested that we have accumulated almost too many options. As a result, we have taken a fresh look at Optimus and made relevant updates to simplify and improve it.”

“After all, what kind of pioneer in sound monitoring would Cirrus be if we didn’t listen?”

“The shape and build of our Optimus noise monitoring instruments has been perfected over the years, the tapered edge and proportions, for example, are all designed to enhance the device for use – we haven’t needed to make any changes there. What we have done is introduce a more straightforward product range and a simple way for users to identify immediately which Optimus instrument they need for which job, and we’ve also added some technical enhancements, including doubling the memory capacity for the whole Optimus range.”

“We believe that valuing customer feedback is one thing, addressing it is another,” Daren continued, “Listening to our customers and observing wider trends allows us to more fully understand how we need to evolve, giving us confidence that we’re meeting and exceeding our customer’s expectations and continuing to provide the very best noise measurement solutions… after all, what kind of pioneer in sound monitoring would Cirrus be if we didn’t listen?”
