When something goes through a stone crusher it’s very rare that anything apart from crushed stones comes out the other side.
So, when a Cirrus Research doseBadge® became dislodged and fell onto the conveyor belt of a stone crusher, Environmental Scientifics Group occupational hygienist David Wright didn’t expect to find much evidence of it left at the other end. However, when the sturdy personal noise dosimeter came out of the process not only intact but in full working order, it helped to seal David’s opinion of his first choice for personal noise measurements.
David has been using the Cirrus doseBadge® for around 15 years and has upgraded his kits on a regular basis and through varied jobs and roles. He said: “I work in a wide variety of places, from quarries, factories and waste processing plants to printing works. These are noisy and dusty sites where the doseBadge® gets blasted with dirt and dust but that’s never been a problem and it has come through every test with flying colours.
“We really do put them through their paces in some very rough and dirty sites but they have never let me down”
“But even knowing that, I was sceptical that it could have survived a stone crusher. Needless to say it came through and was still in full working order, I was amazed.
“I have also seen them dropped from heights, banged and bashed but I have never had one fail on me. It is that robustness and reliability that means I know they will do the job.
“Another big plus is the size and the convenience. They aren’t heavy, there’s no cabling attached, no buttons, no fiddling, so it doesn’t get in the way of the workers. They essentially forget they are wearing them and just get on with the job – that makes them happy and works for me too.
“We really do put them through their paces in some very rough and dirty sites but they have never let me down. I currently have two doseBadge kits but I’m hoping to get another two sets in the near future.”
